Most business owners treat an insurance renewal like a bill. Sign it, pay it, move on. But a renewal is actually a checkpoint, the one point in the year when your coverage is supposed to catch up with your business, not the other way around.
Here is the problem. Your business does not stand still for twelve months. You hire people. You buy a truck. You take on a new type of job. You add a location or drop one. None of that automatically finds its way to your insurance file. It only gets there if someone updates it, and renewal is usually the only time that update happens.
So before you sign anything, it is worth asking what has actually changed since last year, and whether your policy reflects it.
